Russian Revolution

There are many different viewpoints on the Russian Revolution (both about February and October revolutions), the traditional western viewpoint which has been influenced by anti-communist attitudes has been that the Russian Revolution was a Bolshevik coup which led to the tyrannical dictatorship of Lenin, then Stalin. This is counterposed by the traditional Soviet viewpoint that the Russian Revolution was a popular revolution that ended the tyranny of class society and led to socialism in one country. There are many viewpoints in between these two, the Trotskyist viewpoint for instance is that after the popular revolution factors such as the civil war and Stalin's belief that the revolution had put the party instead of the Soviets in power led to it's degeneration into a state with post-capitalist property relations but a bureaucratic caste was in charge which suppressed any chance of real socialism happening. A further viewpoint has been that a revolution was happening in Russia, but the Bolshevik party was a counter-revolutionary force which destroyed this - a viewpoint that is subscribed to by many libertarian socialists and anarchists.

Whatever your viewpoint, we hope to present the historical facts of the revolution and allow you to read the analysis of the various opposing viewpoints to make your own mind up about the Russian Revolution, which undoubtedly was one of the most important events of the whole course of human history.
